A craft in its own right, binding works wonders !

Have you ever wondered how a bundle of sheets of paper is transformed into an oh-so-beautiful book ?

Actually, some sixty operations are required, each of which is important and affects the entire sequence.

Bad stitching, for example, will cause problems throughout the whole process and the end result will be less than satisfactory.

It should be noted that the word « binding » refers not just to the covers but to the collating of the leaves, which are joined to the cover boards.

The visible parts of the work is done last, covering with cloth, leather, paper ...

And then finally the gilding (titling). Rather difficult, you need to practise a long time before trying your skill on a beautiful leather book !

As a traditional handcraft, bookbinding is also a source of creation.

The binder decides on the finish, flat or in relief, whether or not to mix materials.
